Dreveon Scott had another standout performance for the Shaw Bears on February 4th in a 79-80 overtime loss against the Claflin University Panthers, finishing with 25 points and 5 steals. Performances like this and his impressive 30 points and 9 steals in the Bears' 85-69 win against Winston Salem State University are a great example of why Dreveon is on the 2025-2026 HBCU All-Star Game Watch List. Averaging only ten minutes a game during his first couple of seasons, Dreveon had an increase in production during the  2024-25 basketball season for the Bears, averaging 11.5 points playing 28 minutes a game. Now that the regular season is coming close to an end, this final stretch of games could be detrimental for Dreveon and the Bears as the tension and stakes rise.

As a senior coming out of Marlboro County High School, Dreveon Scott was a region player of the year, assigned to the 2021 all-state team, and finished his senior season off by becoming a South Carolina 3A state champion for men's basketball. "It means a lot knowing that in 10 years from now, I can look back and say that my teammates and I had something to do with the change in the environment in the community around us," said Senior Dreveon Scott, according to an interview with ABC News Channel 15, despite having to overcome challenges and changes caused by COVID-19. After finishing a tremendous senior year athletically and academically with a 3.8 Grade Point Average, Dreveon committed to Fort Valley State University.

In an interview with Dreveon, when asked how his first year at Shaw University went, he said, "I had to redshirt my freshman year, so it was more about finding myself, and something to do knowing I could not really play basketball like I wanted to." "I just kept my head down and went hard in practice, trusted the process, as they like to say. I feel like the coaches always trusted me, so I stayed at Shaw because I trusted them. I understood that in this system, you just had to wait for your turn. I did not have a problem doing that." When asked about being on the watchlist, potentially playing in the HBCU All-Star Game. His future in basketball, Dreveon responded, "It would be cool to be a part of the all-star game. However, my focus right now is on this final stretch. We have got six games left, we gotta finish strong and get ready to go to Baltimore for the CIAA playoffs. When it is all said and done,  I can see myself playing basketball for a check somewhere, even if it is overseas. I would capitalize on the opportunity if it presents itself."

As Dreveon Scott closes out his senior season, his journey highlights both persistence and growth, making him one of the most impactful players for the Shaw Bears. From a standout high school career that built his foundation to patiently developing through early college challenges, Dreveon has emerged as a leader. His scoring ability and defensive energy explain why he is gaining recognition at the HBCU level and why his name is associated with All-Star consideration. More importantly, his mindset of staying focused on team success while preparing for future opportunities reflects the maturity of a player who understands the bigger picture.
